Welcome
THE ROG REPORT
Welcome to The ROG Report. The report blogs about the many subjects that I’m interested in including politics, culture, the environment and education. I’m what’s known as a Renaissance Man. This means I have many interests and having a minor case of ADHD, I’m a natural multitasker. I don’t think I’m much different from everyone else as we humans are not one trick ponies – we all have many interests. This attribute is the basis of my copywriting, editing and ghostwriting.
Copywriting and proofreading are the art or science of creating and verifying content that increases product awareness and persuades people to take specific actions through a wide range of media channels, as in: Advertising scripts, Blog posts, Brochures, Case Studies, Emails, E-newsletters, Ghostwriting, Headlines, Landing pages, On-line ads, On-line Content, Sales Letters, Social Media Updates, Video scripts, Website content, White papers.
Because I am a produced screenwriter (20th Century Searchlight – GAS) and am in the process of writing three non-fiction ebooks, my primary interest is in research and writing White papers, Case Studies, Blog Posts and Website Content, Landing Pages and Ghostwriting. That said, having been in real estate sales for over 40 years I have formulated dozens of marketing campaigns. The following title page Copywriting Narrative gives a description of nine of the most common copywriting projects.
After receiving an MS in Education Research from Sonoma State University, I developed this blog to house my writings and to communicate with others about them. My most recent article is posted on the front page. My other writings can be found under the “Categories” section. Most of them have “tags” for easier searches which is also the purpose of the dated archives. The “Links” are to my other sites.
If you would like to be notified when I post a new commentary enter your email at the bottom of the blog page. The “Gallery” is a hodge-podge of photos and videos of interest to me. Since I have been known to do some stand-up comedy, I just had to have a “humor” page so if you hear a good one send it to me and I’ll post it.
I’ve been writing for about 30 years now. I write creative fiction, non-fiction, technical, commentary, screenplays, history narratives, historic fiction, grant proposals, k-12 curriculum. If you check out my “Bio” it will give you a good idea of what I’ve been writing about.
I love to write – it is my chocolate. Writing exercises my demons because they don’t get out much and they need all the exercise they can get. I write to hide from the world and drown out the white-noise. As that great American philosopher Bill Murray once said, “Writers are moles.” I write so I have an excuse to make the world anyway I want it and I write because I think I have something to say in a creative, insightful, and entertaining way. I’m the most happy when I’m writing. I’ll write anything. I’ll even write Hallmark cards if someone would pay me for doing it. Fortune cookies?-bring ‘um on.
I write what interests me. I read newspapers every day and that’s why I write commentary. I write about local issues and I write about not so local issues. I write about love and life. I have a fertile imagination and I never lack for ideas. I think it’s the Irish in me. I appreciate great conversationalists. My quest in life is to find true love and more money than I can spend in a lifetime.
Politically I’m a left of center independent. You tell me the issue and I’ll tell you if I’m conservative or liberal on it. I like to say I’m a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. I hate waste in government, I don’t trust most politicians, religions or the super-rich, and I think America’s social safety net is one of the greatest things ever created. It gives everyone a chance while stimulating the economy. I’m a political gadfly and I like writing bios for people who I like and are running for offices.
As a certified Naturalist I have learned that nature is progressive and is forever evolving – that’s why I write about it. Even though we need both, this is why political progressivism is more natural than conservatism. You can’t stop mother nature.
I’m fascinated with evil like the Nazis, the KKK and Donald Trump because I’ll never understand how people can be like that. But they do make great story villains. That said, as a course of nature I also believe good always triumphs over evil – it may take a while but it always does. I like sci-fi and fantasy adventure, which will be a big part of my K-12 The WHATZIT ACADEMY, but I also like most genres if it has a compelling story.
I’m excited about the ongoing K-12 education innovation revolution including progressive teaching/learning methodologies and the digital new generation of curriculum and support materials. It’s exciting to see kids get excited, motivated and engaged when they are given a fun environment to learn and socialize in. As is expressed in the Andragogy (adult learning) educational philosophy, if the subject is interesting and fun kids will educate themselves just like adults do.
I like things like family and friends, hiking and fishing. I learned how to fish for steelhead. There’s a big gap between knowing how and actually catching one. Plus I think you have to be smarter than the fish which is problematic for me. I have a viticulture certificate from SRJC and I was a wine judge at the Sonoma County Harvest Faire for six years. I love a great bottle of wine. The varietal doesn’t matter as long as it’s good.
I like kindness, good karma and cats – and I love women. I think women are the superior gender and are responsible for what civilization we have. Women should run anything they want and let us men be the artists and pets that we are. As a male friend once said, “Women just get it in a way that men don’t.” I also like the truth about things. Truth takes a lot of stress out of our lives.
As mentioned, I am currently in the process of writing three ebooks. The subjects are on, American Culture, K-12 Education, Parenting, Brain Development and Memory. Many of the posts in this blog are excerpts from these books.
THE EVOLUTION OF AMERICAN TRIBALISM: This book takes a deep looking into what divides Americans and where that divide came from. Just like electricity needs positive and negative elements to work, American society needs progressive and conservative elements to function. How American tribalism evolved and what its future portends are explored through a look at such cultural and sociological venues as how our nation started and evolved; the evolution of American religion and family; media and education; capitalism and the economy; democracy and politics; and the psychology of it all. This will be the third in a three-part series on human evolution. The other two are posted here as THE SPECTRUM of HUMAN EVOLUTION and HUMAN SOCIOCULTURAL EVOLUTION
INNOVATIONISM AI: This book is a continuation of my MA thesis on innovation in K-12 education and is intended to serve as a resource guide for the development of contemporary K-12 curriculum and learning. The non-profit Institute of Progressive Education and Learning (www.i-pel,org) will house this project’s educational advancements. The goal of this project is to prepare K-12 students for a love of self-learning and a life-time of adult curiosity through an enjoyable venue of social interaction and technology. The project’s virtual charter school, is called The WHATZIT Academy.
MEMORY TREATMENT PROTOCOL: While the love of my life was sinking into that cesspool called Alzheimer’s and realizing that all the neurological professionals that I was taking her to could do nothing for her, I decided to research the disease with the intention of educating people about the disease and the hope of being some help in finding a cure. This project’s goal is to try and bring the neurological science closer to the care applications. Along the way I have learned and recorded how the human brain develops and functions, what causes the disease, what treatments are currently available and how close we are to finding a cure. I am fortunate to have access to neurological professionals that are active in the field. As a byproduct, I have learned much about the human aging process which is part and parcel to many of the memory issues.
There’s more to me but you’ll have to read my posts to find it. Then tell me what you think – or not.
